Happy Friday lovelies! With engagement sessions picking up again, there’s been a lot of studio chatter regarding the best of our newest shoots. What can we say, we gush over your photos! That being said, there are some key factors to our favorites, and some tips we can share in the “what not to do” category! We know you want to get the best photos possible, so listen up!
– Act Natural
We can’t stress this enough! Pretend like the camera isn’t there, and take some time to have some fun with your significant other. If you’re constantly aware of where the camera is, your movements will be stiff, and you’ll lose that magical spark between the two of you – which is what we’re trying to capture! If you’re shy or have concerns, have a friend or family member follow you around for a few hours like a paparazzi, and try to ignore them. Soon, the camera won’t be as intimidating.
– Don’t “pose”
This may sound silly, but forget everything you’ve seen in a magazine or modeling show about posing! Pursed lips, bedroom eyes… these are things that make your shoot seem forced and unnatural. A giant smile, a wrinkled nose, these are the honest moments that will warm your heart when you look back on these moments later in your life. The only exception to this rule is when some of our fashion-forward brides schedule a shoot just for the fabulosity of posing like a runway diva: then by all means work it!
– Wear something comfy
Now, don’t show up in your college sweats and a track jacket! But wearing something that fits you correctly, with a little room for movement, will allow you to let go and not worry about your appearance. And if you’re going to wear heels (which make your legs look fabulous darling) make sure to bring flats to wear between locations. We shoot a lot in San Francisco, and those hills can be killer! Not to mention a trek through a park might be a dangerous way to sprain your ankle.
– Listen to Caroline!
Our fearless photographer has photographed countless couples all over the country – so you’re in good hands. She has some serious superpowers when it comes to taking magical photos, and her advice will go a long way!
