We love sharing our favorite spots with our fabulous engaged couples to get the most amazing portraits, and we’re never disappointed with the breathtaking backdrops at the Sutro Baths in San Francisco.
Envisioned as an extravagant bath house in 1896 by then mayor of San Francisco Alfred Sutro, the large greek structures were built as an inexpensive way for large numbers of people to be entertained and educated in a cultural experience.
From the website:
“The front entrance contained natural history exhibits, galleries of sculptures, paintings, tapestries and artifacts from Mexico, China, Asia, and the Middle East and the Middle East, including the popular Egyptian mummies. In addition to swimming, Sutro Baths offered visitors many other attractions including band concerts, talent shows, and restaurants. With several railroads providing transportation to the area by the late 1890s, a visit to Sutro Baths crowned an all-day family excursion to the shore, including stops at Sutro Heights, the Cliff House and Ocean Beach.”
After the baths lost their profitability they were the site of many other endeavors including theme parks and ice skating rinks, before it burnt down in the 1960’s. Since the 1970’s it has been part of the State Parks protected land, and it remains a crumbling, abandoned remnant of past grandeur.
So without further adieu, here is Heather and Jeff’s gorgeous engagement session!
A silhouette of the two lovebirds in a cave on the Sutro Baths grounds. The pair snuggle for some sweet photos. Heather isn’t afraid of color! We love her bright pink nails. The Sutro baths often play a willing host to the rolling San Francisco fog. An abandoned dock is the perfect place for a romantic rendezvous, don’t you think? Sunlit kisses are the best kind…
Heather and Jeff wanted to splash a little holi powder around in a colorful woodsy romp! So messy and so colorful! It’s like playing in the mud for adults!
Happy, smiley holi powder faces greet us after this messy session! All glammed up for the last segment of shooting! What a fabulous couple these two make!
There are so many wonderful locations to shoot around this area – and such beautiful light! Heather’s chihuahua Bailey had her chance for stardom at the end of this shoot. We think she’s always ready for a closeup! Lots of smooches for this newly engaged couple!
Even with the rain trying to dampen our day, it couldn’t keep the glamour out of this shoot!
Congratulations you two – you look wonderful!
LOVE the powder!!!! soooo fun. looks like a great session with so much variety!! looking forward to seeing more!
