On May 31st, we celebrated the opening of our new Sacramento photography studio. What began as a ribbon cutting quickly turned into a far more meaningful afternoon than we ever anticipated.
Initially, it was meant to be a simple milestone event. However, it became a gathering of entrepreneurs, artists, community leaders, clients, friends, and supporters who have all played a role in our journey.
As a women-owned photography studio built from the ground up, this moment reminded us that no business grows alone. Because of this, the celebration felt deeply personal and shared.

A Celebration of Culture and New Beginnings
To begin the afternoon, a traditional lion dance performance filled the space with energy, celebration, and good fortune.
Shortly after, we moved into our official ribbon cutting ceremony in partnership with the Sacramento Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce. As a result, the moment felt both ceremonial and community-centered.
Rather than standing as a standalone achievement, this milestone reflected the collective support surrounding our work.
Community Leaders Who Joined Us
In addition, we were honored to welcome local leaders and advocates who continue to support creative businesses and community spaces.
Among our guests were Sacramento County Supervisor Rich Desmond, Iris Austin (Special Assistant to Supervisor Desmond), Sacramento City Council Member Phil Pluckebaum, Monika Lee (Chief of Staff for the Vice Mayor of Sacramento), Pat Fong Kushida (CEO of the Cal/Sac Asian Pacific Chamber of Commerce), Rita Menez (Vice President of the North Sacramento Chamber of Commerce), Suzette Gibson (West Sacramento Chamber), Sergey Terebkov (Founder and President of the Slavic American Chamber of Commerce), Liliana Hernandez (Sacramento County Economic Development), and Devin Strecker (Executive Director of the River District).
Their presence meant a great deal to us. Moreover, it reflected the importance of investing in local creative spaces and small businesses.
A Studio Full of Connection and Creativity
Throughout the afternoon, guests explored the studio and connected with fellow business owners. Many also took time to learn more about our work and creative process.
Meanwhile, our headshot station became one of the most engaging experiences of the event. Guests stepped in front of the camera, allowing them to experience a small part of what we do every day.
Additionally, the Giggle Squad booth and Funbooth experience from our sister company, Giggle & Riot, brought playfulness and laughter into the space.
As a result, the portrait station quickly became one of the most visited areas of the studio.
A Space Built for Community
More importantly, one of our core goals has always been to create something bigger than ourselves.
We want this space to feel welcoming for creative professionals, entrepreneurs, families, and community organizations alike.
During the event, we were also proud to feature local businesses. For example, Shroomhouse hosted a take-home mushroom grow bag workshop, while Lilac & Flint shared their work and connected with guests throughout the day.
As the afternoon unfolded, it was inspiring to see people gather, learn, and build new relationships inside the studio.
The Next Chapter for Milou & Olin Collective
Over the past eighteen years, Milou & Olin Collective has grown beyond a photography business. Instead, it has become a community centered on connection, visibility, and storytelling.
Now, this new studio represents the next chapter of that journey.
It is, first and foremost, a place for portraits.
Additionally, it is a place for events.
It is also a place for workshops.
Ultimately, it is a space where women, families, entrepreneurs, artists, and community members can gather and be seen.
Finally, to everyone who attended, supported, encouraged, and celebrated with us—thank you.We are truly grateful to be part of this community. At the same time, we are excited for everything still to come.
We look forward to welcoming more of our community into the space in the months ahead.
