There has been one thing that has been on my mind. During our breakfast with Jesh, he asked us what we thought was the reason behind our fast progress – photography wise and with Tinywater. When he asked that, I was stumped. Our immediate answer was that we think it’s because we listen. We listen to you, we listen to our couples. It’s amazing how simple that sounds, yet a lot of people in this day and age never bother to get to know each other. Let alone listen. We, on the other hand, invest the time in listening to you and getting to know you. And because we listen, we feel we understand our couples better and they trust us to open up to us in front of the camera. To be honest, it’s because we love getting to know people. We want you to show in our photos. We are selfish, but we want to know you and call you our friend!
Reflecting on Jesh’s question on Sunday night on the drive home from another wedding, I really feel that maybe in a way we are now blessed because we believe in giving and sharing joy through our photographs. Or maybe it was because we went through two years of sheer hell with moving, a broken finger, a broken foot, surgeries, painful physical therapy ($@&#^#%), losing puppies, parents falling ill and a death in the family. Maybe it’s because we are too soft hearted, I can’t count the number of times we have heard a sad story about a dog dying or terminally ill and then giving free photos of the dog away. I don’t know, all I know is that we are beyond lucky to be doing what we love and doing pretty good at it.
I kept thinking of Jesh’s question these past few days. I feel like it’s an important question that I will keep asking myself to keep us grounded, and remind us where we started and came from. We are not doing this to be famous, or for money. We do this because we love it, and it makes our heart sing. So Jesh’s question is one to remember. I will be putting it on a post it note on the wall. Maybe it’s me wearing my heart on my sleeve, but always remember to give, people! It doesn’t need to be financially, but just to do something nice and kind to bring a smile to another person’s life is more than enough! Open the door for someone, say thank you, say hi, just reach out and be earnest. Touch a person’s life, get to know someone, open yourself up a little and you will be surprised the joys you will share and receive.
So yeah, sorry but I got all sappy. That’s me. And is it any surprise that we really feel that Jesh is yet another important part of our life because we connected on a spiritual/friendship level and not just over photography. We are blessed for all the friends we have made in this journey. It’s not always about photography =)
